I bought a size 8 for him and they fit with room to grow in all directions. The shorts come down to his knees and the shoulder seams are slightly off of his shoulders. Most importantly, the rise is high enough on the shorts and the shirt covers his stomach with length to spare. He should be able to wear these for a couple of years. I don't love the designs, but my kid doesn't really care what his clothes look like, so it works for us.
